Licensed Esthetician Daniella Londono’s everyday face massage routine
“I want my work to be in dedication to nature and rest and empowering women in their natural beauty. ”
What is your name, what do you do, and where are you based?
My name is Daniella Londono, I'm based in Portland, OR, born & raised in South Florida. I'm a holistic esthetician and herbalist.
What is your passion/profession?
Earthee was the vision of what I wanted to cultivate with my life. It was Sept 2020 and I had just left working asset transfer for an international investment firm and found myself really disconnected from my mind, body, spirit. I took some time to be unemployed and rest and return to self and ask myself the big questions about who we want to be and what we want to do with our day to day life. The answer: I want to be in spaces where I get to care for myself and others. I want to connect one on one with people and create a large and welcoming community. I want my work to be in dedication to nature and rest and empowering women in their natural beauty. I'm currently a year and a month in and I'm thankful every day that I get to be here, shaping and cultivating this life.
What are the benefits of giving yourself an oil facial massage?
“Facial massage is a great way to boost blood circulation and naturally plump your skin while stimulating gentle lymphatic drainage. It also lowers our stress levels by providing safe, regulating touch and when paired with a nourishing herbal oil, it can become a really fulfilling wellness ritual you can do whenever, wherever.”
Can you share a step by step guide for your facial routine?
My daily facial routine is small and mighty — I find the benefits come from consistency.
My first step is opening the lymphatic pathways by applying light pressure under the collarbones and gently squeezing and massaging the trapezius muscles. I do this for at least 20 counts to ensure proper lymphatic drainage. I'll then place an open palm on the opposite side of my décolletage underneath the collarbone and with gentle pressure, I'll sweep my hand out towards my shoulder. I do this for another 20 counts minimum on each side and by this point, I'm starting to really take the moment to sink into the present moment and practice a bit of mindfulness.
With open palms and gentle pressure, I start massaging my neck, always moving up my neck, back towards my ear, and down the side of my neck into my collarbones.
From there, it's repetitive strokes using both hands and slight pressure from the center of my face, outward.
I work my way up the face, repeating each movement a minimum of 5 times (although now it's more like 10-15).
We want to sweep each motion down the neck once you reach your ears for proper lymphatic drainage into the collarbone.
I use a lot of intuitive movement alongside my professional massage training.
Why do you recommend using analog nature's spring oil as a good option for a face oil?
Besides it smelling delicious and feeling lightweight on the face, prickly pear, especially the seed oil, has always been regarded as a powerful and natural positive aging ingredient. I love jojoba oil personally too because when it comes to oils, it most closely resembles our naturally producing oils which allows it to be absorbed by our skin easily and efficiently. And the smell, it's a favorite.
What is your relationship with your own cyclical nature? Any insights or rituals you'd like to share with others that helps you find balance in your body?
I would say that today, I'm pretty in touch with my natural cycles — I think it's been something I've reconnected to in the past five years, especially post 2020. I'm big on cycle syncing and am constantly reading up on how to best support my natural hormonal cycles. I even have a little grocery shopping list in my notes app that tells me what I should eat during each one of my hormonal cycles. I got a cookbook from Arc Woman that breaks it down — the only thing I don't love is the cookbook didn't really explain why each ingredient is good for that cycle but it is what it is.
How can we approach facial care cyclically or in ways that align with our natural rhythms?
“My favorite fun fact is that skin cycles every 27 days, which means your skin today is a snapshot of what it was taking in about 27 days ago.”
This is why consistency in skincare routines is important — outside of allergic reactions, it takes at least a month of product usage to determine if your skin likes an ingredient and how well it works to get you closer to your skin goals. I think, like everything related to the body, consistency is key and doing things like getting a monthly maintenance facial sets the stage for a healthy skin barrier as a baseline you maintain with your home care routine. (Bonus points if you get your monthly facial in your luteal phase — pro moves for healing hormonal acne)
