Awaken, Renew, Grow

The Spring Botanicals Behind Our Spring Body Oil: Bloomin

Why these three essential oils for our spring blend bloomin?

I blend each seasonal oil in the season we’re actually in. With over 300 essential oils to choose from, why these three?

When I approach a blend, I start with the energy of the season. Spring invites us to awaken, renew, and grow, so first and foremost (always, always) I want to root into that feeling and help us connect with this natural rhythm. I think about what our skin and bodies are needing from a nutritional lens. I think about what botanicals feel complementary to the archetypal phase of spring in a woman’s cycle. Then I think about the synergy of the blend, and of course the aroma it creates.

I approach each blend with the intention of helping the collective root into the rhythm of the season and find balance in our minds, bodies, and souls.

For this spring blend, I tried a variety of botanical oils that met the intention of helping one “awaken, renew, and grow.” For example, Geranium was a consideration, because of its powerful support for menstrual cycles and its harvest time landing in spring. But I felt its aroma profile was a bit too overpowering for the feeling I was trying to achieve.

I really wanted this blend to feel like that moment when you stop to smell a rose… and then you sit with it a little longer, because the longer you inhale, the more it blooms and opens something within you. I wanted it to feel and smell like the energy of blooming. A gentle awakening and instantly energizing.

Awaken, Renew, and Grow

Once I land on notes that naturally harmonize, ratios are the next consideration. One drop of essential oil is so, so powerful. And a little goes such a long way. There is only a 2% dilution for every 30 ml blend. This is appropriate both from a nutritional lens and a sustainability lens.

The carriers are also a very specific choice, selected with this same approach, with texture and feeling on the skin being another important consideration for seasonal alignment and skin nutrition. Each carrier holds each botanical differently, so this is a trial and error experiment as well ( will have to write a focused article on the process of carrier oil blends and harmony.)

I consult with my board of advisors (naturopath and aromatherapist) to confirm it meets both the physical/nutritional aspect and the aromatherapy components. For this blend specifically, it was incredibly difficult to get the perfect balance of the three, especially considering I selected two top notes and only one base note. But that is what the energy called for. Light and energizng. I worked with my mentor/aromatherapist for a long time to perfect this.

In order to get the perfect balance, we ended up infusing the FCO with the rose absolute prior to blending with the other ingredients. The result is Bloomin. A handcrafted spring body oil blend made with so much intention and love. Each one is hand bottled and blended with care, so you can feel your best each season and cycle.

You can use this blend wherever and whenever, but because it holds the energy of spring, it will be a lighter, more energizing blend complementary to the rhythm of both the macro season of spring and your inner spring (follicular phase). From an Ayurveda perspective, it can also be used outside of the season, depending on what balance your body needs.

There is so much to be said about the magic and energetics of this special 30 ml spring blend…and really, the art and well-being of essential oils in general. But I’ll save that for another article… For now, I’d like to talk about the magic of each essential oil, and its intended purpose in this spring blend.
